Mystical Madness

This summer, The Glimmerglass Festival will present Robert Ward and Bernard Stambler’s opera The Crucible, based on the play by Arthur Miller. It’s one of the productions I’m looking most forward to photographing.

After speaking with director Francesca Zambello, The Glimmerglass PR/Marketing team and I were inspired by her vision to create promotional images which utilized the rich, natural landscape of Central New York. For our location we chose a wooded area within Glimmerglass State Park, providing a dramatic setting for the dancers to move through. For this project, using motion blur to capture movement became an integral part of storytelling, as the dancers embody being overtaken by witchcraft hysteria, a prominent theme in the work.

Next month I’ll be heading once again to Cooperstown, New York to begin documenting the 2016 season. Stay tuned for more images on stage, behind-the-scenes, and events. If you haven’t gotten your tickets, don’t wait any longer. I hope to see you this summer!

Photo Feature: "Cold Mountain"

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a workshop at the Curtis Institute of Music for the upcoming opera "Cold Mountain" by Jennifer Higdon. Premiering at Santa Fe Opera in 2015, the production is a co-commission with Opera Philadelphia. I'm grateful to have been able to capture a beginning stage in this incredible new work!

James Brown: Get On The Good Foot

Last month under the Apollo Theater Education department, I had the opportunity to capture a Family Showtime performance featuring excerpts from James Brown: Get On The Good Foot – A Celebration in Dance. Presented by the Apollo Theater, this vivacious and soulful production made me want to abandon my Saturday night plans and come back to enjoy the evening performance without a camera in front of my face!
